October brought with it National Poetry Day which got us thinking about one of our favourite space invaders, the artist and poet Robert Montgomery, who brings his words to the people, literally. His work pops up everywhere from the top of a carpark in Cardiff to a drained swimming pool in Berlin.
One of our favs? The bus that was commissioned by the Royal Society For Blind Children. With a light installation poem on top, the sides imprinted with braille and a four-screen video installation sharing interviews with visually impaired children inside, Montgomery was able to wholly immerse audiences in the importance of the RSBC’s work.
Montgomery's work speaks to everything we stand for at EDNAEDNA; redefining spaces, surprising audiences and creating a moment of reflection in an otherwise chaotic world.
This Pick saw us head stateside to feature Wonderland Dreams, an immersive art exhibit in NYC taking audiences down the rabbit hole into the magical world of Alice in Wonderland.
Artist Alice Meade, uses her signature 3D painting style to fully immerse visitors in Alice’s world. With every single surface of the multi-floor exhibit hand painted, this is surreal escapism at its very best. Visitors can sup tea at the Mad Hatter’s tea party, reign supreme as the Queen of Heart and even ride a rocking horse through a field of huge abstract blooms…no, really, you can!
We love this space invasion because it allows audiences to indulge their inner child and take some time out from the real world; something we’re pretty confident you’ll agree is proving to be increasingly needed in the current climate. Creating unforgettable escapist moments for audiences is exactly what we’re about at EDNAEDNA.
It’s no secret that we’re huge fans of pretty much every Netflix experiential activation that has ever lived (check out our June Pick’s round-up that features another amazing Netflix activation),, so us featuring the premier event for Heartbreak High should come as no surprise. One of Netflix’s latest reboots, this Aussie teenage drama series is one we can’t stop bingeing (incredible 90’s fashion, ironic humour, and heartbreak? SOLD).
To celebrate the global premier, INVNT Group delivered an event that took guests right back to their High School days. We loved the level of detail. All the High School classics were used to elevate the Netflix brand and the series. Lockers graffitied with ‘Heartbreak High’, signage made from American red cups - even a high school style mural wall for photo ops with members of the cast.
This is a great example of how nostalgia can be used to evoke strong emotions in audiences, creating an event they'll be talking about and sharing on social for days.
The EDNAEDNA founders took some time out to go and visit The Horror Show!; a brand new exhibition Somerset House, co-curated by Iain Forsyth, Jane Pollard and Claire Catterall. This was the perfect gallery visit to get us in the mood for Halloween and gain some inspo for future builds that err on the darker side…
On until 19 February 2023, The Horror Show! invites visitors to 'journey to the underbelly of Britain’s cultural psyche and look beyond horror as a genre, instead taking it as a reaction to our most troubling times’. Split into three sections - Monster, Ghost and Witch - the exhibition covers the last five decades of Britain’s history, showcasing how horror can help us to react to, and process, political and social events.
We loved the fully immersive approach taken. Each room was eerily dressed, with creepy music creating a heightened sense of emotional discord throughout. And, like all great horror experiences, it left us feeling a little on edge...
And that’s a wrap! Hopefully you’ve found October as inspirational (and spooky!) as we have. Stay tuned for more Pick’s round-ups at the end of each month, and follow us on Instagram to see them each Friday in real time.
